Grandpa's Barn
---
The old barn is dying, beet red boards peeling outwards and flapping like dry onion skin. A storm ripped open the western side like a crusted old scab, letting flow the memories like new blood. Its bones bared, many boards now lying broken amongst antique farm machines, woodshop knick knacks, rusted mowers and their spilled innards...short lengths of unused fence, an ancient antenna, bales of musty hay and crumbled cinder blocks.

My wife picks carefully through tokens of her childhood spent here, stored and waiting patiently under years of dust. As softly as spring rain, she weeps. My son picks dandelions outside, unaware of the gravity of memory.
